Tree surgeons who actually work in Tring every week

Tring (HP23) sits on the edge of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which shapes almost every tree job in the postcode. Beech dominates the woodland edges, mature ash lines a lot of the older boundaries, and many gardens back straight onto protected woodland. Working here means respecting both the setting and the additional planning constraints that come with it.

Coverage across Tring

Tring town, Wigginton, Aldbury border, New Mill, Wilstone and the outlying HP23 villages.

Response time to Tring

About 40 minutes from our Bushey yard. We book Tring visits in clusters where possible to keep quotes turned around within 24 hours.

Property types we know

Older cottages and Victorian villas with mature garden trees, edge-of-Chiltern properties with woodland boundaries, and modern developments on the town's south side.

What we get called out for

Beech reduction and deadwood management, ash dieback fells, boundary tree disputes with the AONB backdrop, and hedge resets after seasons of neglect.

Why Tring customers keep booking us back

Ash dieback experience

Ash dieback is aggressive across HP23. We assess honestly — some trees can be monitored, others are fell-only — and price both options.

AONB-aware working

Chilterns setting means extra planning care. We check every job for AONB and conservation constraints before quoting.

One written quote, no surprises

Fixed price for the whole job including chipping, removal and TPO paperwork where required.

Common in Tring

The tree problems Tring throws at us

Ash dieback

The disease has hit HP23 hard. Roadside and boundary ash needs proper inspection — brittle wood makes late-stage climbing unsafe, so we fell from a MEWP or by rigging where necessary.

Beech in dry summers

Tring's beeches suffered badly through recent dry summers. We manage stressed beeches with light deadwood only — hard reductions accelerate decline.

Chiltern woodland boundaries

Gardens backing onto Ashridge or Tring Park often inherit huge boundary trees that are not on your title. We advise on what you can and can't touch legally.

In detail

Tring tree surgery — the full picture

Dacorum Borough Council and the Chilterns AONB

Tring is administered by Dacorum Borough Council. Much of the surrounding land is in the Chilterns AONB, which does not by itself require additional tree work consent but does mean planners look more carefully at anything that affects visual amenity. Conservation-area status covers parts of the town centre. Where a tree is protected or in a conservation area, we handle the application or 6-week notice as part of the quoted price.

Ash dieback — what we actually do

Chalara ash dieback (Hymenoscyphus fraxineus) is now well established across the Chilterns. On every ash we quote we assess crown density, epicormic growth, basal lesions and any signs of secondary pathogens. Trees in the early stages can often be monitored and pruned; heavily affected trees are unsafe to climb and must be dismantled from a MEWP or felled by rigging. We won't send climbers into a brittle ash — and we won't quote a fell we don't believe is necessary.

Beech, chalk and dry summers

Tring's chalk soils and open aspect leave mature beech vulnerable during long dry spells. Symptoms are top dieback, sparse foliage and premature leaf fall. The right response is almost always light — deadwood removal, minor end weighting, mulching around the root plate — not the heavy reduction some quote for. We'll say so on the site visit.

Tree surgery in Tring: your questions, answered straight

Do you cover Tring?

Yes — Tring is one of our core catchment areas. We're based in Bushey (WD23), roughly 40 minutes away, and we work in Tring most weeks of the year. Free site visits for anywhere in the postcode.

How fast can you reach Tring in an emergency?

The office phone is answered 24/7 for emergencies. For a genuine hazard — a limb on a car, a wind-blown tree across a driveway or a trunk against a roof — we aim to be on-site in Tring the same day, most often within a couple of hours during working hours.

How much does tree surgery cost in Tring?

Every job in Tring is priced individually after a free site visit — we do not charge day rates. Cost depends on tree size, species, access and how the arisings are removed, which is why we always see the job first. You get one fixed written price within 24 hours; that is what you pay.

Do I need council permission for tree work in Tring?

Very possibly. Tring contains multiple conservation areas and many individually protected trees (TPOs). We check the council register for you before quoting and, where a formal application or 6-week conservation-area notice is required, we prepare and submit it on your behalf at no extra cost.

Are you insured to work in Tring?

Yes — £10 million public liability and £5 million employers' liability, valid for domestic and commercial work across Tring and the wider Hertfordshire. Certificates emailed on request before we start.

Do you take the waste away?

Always. All arisings from Tring jobs are chipped on-site where possible and removed under our Environment Agency waste carrier licence. Firewood-grade logs can be left stacked if you'd like them; nothing is left behind unless you ask.

Can you handle jobs in tight Tring back gardens?

Yes. Sectional dismantling from the tree is what most Tring jobs need — no cherry pickers battering the front garden. Where access is genuinely blocked we rig out over roofs and drop pieces into a controlled zone. Nothing goes over a fence unplanned.

Do you work for landlords, agents and businesses in Tring?

Regularly. We run rolling maintenance contracts for landlords, managing agents, schools, care homes and estates across Tring — one point of contact, scheduled visits, RAMS supplied, invoiced monthly or per visit.
